The Elephant and the Tailor
(हाथी और दर्जी)

Once upon a time, in a busy town, lived an elephant. एक समय की बात है, एक व्यस्त शहर में, एक हाथी रहता था। His name was Gajraj. उसका नाम गजराज था। He was a very big and gentle animal. वह बहुत बड़ा और सौम्य जानवर था। He belonged to a temple priest. वह एक मंदिर के पुजारी का था। Gajraj was very friendly with everyone. गजराज सबके साथ बहुत मिलनसार था। He never hurt anyone in the town. उसने शहर में कभी किसी को चोट नहीं पहुँचाई। Children used to play near his legs. बच्चे उसके पैरों के पास खेलते थे। Every morning, he went to the river for a bath. हर सुबह, वह नहाने के लिए नदी पर जाता था। The river was on the other side of the market. नदी बाजार के दूसरी तरफ थी। He had to walk through the busy streets. उसे व्यस्त सड़कों से होकर जाना पड़ता था। He walked slowly and carefully. वह धीरे और सावधानी से चलता था। People loved to see him pass by. लोग उसे गुजरते हुए देखना पसंद करते थे। They often gave him coconuts and jaggery. वे अक्सर उसे नारियल और गुड़ देते थे। Gajraj accepted their gifts happily. गजराज उनके उपहारों को खुशी से स्वीकार करता था। He waved his trunk to say thank you. वह धन्यवाद कहने के लिए अपनी सूंड हिलाता था।

Karim lost his temper completely. करीम ने अपना आपा पूरी तरह खो दिया। He picked up a sharp needle. उसने एक तेज सुई उठाई। Instead of giving a banana, he pricked the trunk. केला देने के बजाय, उसने सूंड में सुई चुभा दी। He pricked it hard with the needle. उसने सुई से जोर से चुभाया। "Take this!" said the angry tailor. "ये लो!" क्रोधित दर्जी ने कहा। Gajraj felt a sharp pain. गजराज को तेज दर्द हुआ। He pulled back his trunk quickly. उसने अपनी सूंड जल्दी से पीछे खींची। Blood started coming out of the wound. घाव से खून निकलने लगा। He looked at Karim with sad eyes. उसने करीम को उदास आँखों से देखा। He did not expect this from his friend. उसे अपने दोस्त से ऐसी उम्मीद नहीं थी। He was hurt physically and emotionally. वह शारीरिक और भावनात्मक रूप से आहत था। But he did not attack the tailor. लेकिन उसने दर्जी पर हमला नहीं किया। He quietly walked away towards the river. वह चुपचाप नदी की ओर चल दिया। Karim felt a little guilty later. करीम को बाद में थोड़ा दोषी महसूस हुआ। But he continued with his work. लेकिन वह अपने काम में लगा रहा।

Gajraj reached the river bank. गजराज नदी के किनारे पहुँचा। The cool water soothed his pain. ठंडे पानी ने उसके दर्द को शांत किया। He washed his wound carefully. उसने अपना घाव सावधानी से धोया। But he did not forget the insult. लेकिन वह अपमान को नहीं भूला। He wanted to teach the tailor a lesson. वह दर्जी को सबक सिखाना चाहता था। "He was cruel to me," thought the elephant. "मुझे उसे उसी के सिक्के में भुगतान करना होगा (जैसा को तैसा)।" He saw a dirty ditch near the river. उसने नदी के पास एक गंदा गड्ढा देखा। The water in the ditch was very muddy. गड्ढे का पानी बहुत गंदा (कीचड़ वाला) था। It was full of slime and dirt. यह कीचड़ और गंदगी से भरा था। Gajraj filled his trunk with this dirty water. गजराज ने अपनी सूंड इस गंदे पानी से भर ली। He sucked up as much mud as he could. उसने जितना हो सके उतना कीचड़ चूस लिया। Then he started walking back to the market. फिर वह वापस बाजार की ओर चलने लगा। He walked fast with a purpose. वह एक उद्देश्य के साथ तेजी से चला।

Karim was still busy in his shop. करीम अभी भी अपनी दुकान में व्यस्त था। He had stitched many new clothes. उसने कई नए कपड़े सिये थे। There were new shirts and dresses. वहाँ नई शर्ट और ड्रेस थीं। They were kept neatly on the shelves. वे अलमारियों पर बड़े करीने से रखे हुए थे। Some clothes were ready for delivery. कुछ कपड़े डिलीवरी के लिए तैयार थे। Gajraj stopped at the shop window again. गजराज फिर से दुकान की खिड़की पर रुका। Karim looked up and saw him. करीम ने ऊपर देखा और उसे देखा। Before Karim could say anything, Gajraj acted. इससे पहले कि करीम कुछ कह पाता, गजराज ने काम कर दिया। He lifted his trunk high. उसने अपनी सूंड ऊँची उठाई। "Whoosh!" came the sound of water. All the beautiful clothes were ruined. सारे सुंदर कपड़े बर्बाद हो गए। Karim was shocked and devastated. करीम हैरान और तबाह हो गया। He looked at his spoiled work. उसने अपने खराब हुए काम को देखा। He realized what a big loss he made. उसे एहसास हुआ कि उसने कितना बड़ा नुकसान किया है। He looked at Gajraj standing outside. उसने बाहर खड़े गजराज को देखा। The elephant flapped his ears and walked away. हाथी ने अपने कान फड़फड़ाए और चला गया। Karim sat down and held his head. करीम बैठ गया और अपना सिर पकड़ लिया। "It is my fault," he admitted sadly. "यह मेरी गलती है," उसने उदासी से स्वीकार किया। "I hurt him first with a needle." "मैंने उसे पहले सुई से चोट पहुँचाई।" "He paid me back with dirt." "यह जैसे को तैसा है।" He understood that bad actions bring bad results. वह समझ गया कि बुरे कार्यों का परिणाम बुरा होता है। The next day, Karim waited for Gajraj. अगले दिन, करीम ने गजराज का इंतजार किया। When the elephant came, Karim came out. जब हाथी आया, तो करीम बाहर आया। He patted the elephant's trunk gently. उसने हाथी की सूंड को धीरे से थपथपाया। He apologized for his cruel behavior. उसने अपने क्रूर व्यवहार के लिए माफी मांगी। He gave him many fresh bananas. उसने उसे कई ताजे केले दिए। Gajraj forgave him and ate the fruit. गजराज ने उसे माफ कर दिया और फल खाए। They became good friends once again. वे एक बार फिर अच्छे दोस्त बन गए। And Karim never hurt anyone again. और करीम ने फिर कभी किसी को चोट नहीं पहुँचाई।
