The Thirsty Crow
(प्यासा कौआ)

One year, the summer was very hot. एक साल, गर्मी बहुत तेज थी। The sun shone brightly in the sky every day. सूरज हर दिन आसमान में तेजी से चमकता था। It burned the earth with its heat. इसने धरती को अपनी गर्मी से जला दिया। There was no rain for many months. कई महीनों तक बारिश नहीं हुई। The lakes and rivers started drying up. झीलें और नदियां सूखने लगीं। Even the small ponds were completely empty. यहां तक कि छोटे तालाब भी पूरी तरह खाली थे। The animals in the forest were suffering. जंगल के जानवर पीड़ित थे। They roamed everywhere looking for water. वे पानी की तलाश में हर जगह घूमते थे। Among them was a clever black Crow. उनमें एक चतुर काला कौआ था। He was flying in the sky slowly. वह धीरे-धीरे आसमान में उड़ रहा था। He was feeling very thirsty and weak. वह बहुत प्यासा और कमजोर महसूस कर रहा था। His throat was dry and painful. उसका गला सूखा और दर्दनाक था। "I need water soon," he thought. "मुझे जल्द ही पानी चाहिए," उसने सोचा। "Otherwise, I will not survive today." "अन्यथा, मैं आज नहीं बचूंगा।" He looked down at the ground hopefully. उसने उम्मीद से जमीन की ओर नीचे देखा।

The Crow flew towards the north side. कौआ उत्तर दिशा की ओर उड़ गया। He saw a river, but it was dry sand. उसने एक नदी देखी, लेकिन वह सूखी रेत थी। He flew towards the south side. वह दक्षिण दिशा की ओर उड़ गया। He saw a well near a village. उसने एक गाँव के पास एक कुआँ देखा। He sat on the wall of the well. वह कुएं की दीवार पर बैठ गया। He looked deep inside the dark hole. उसने अंधेरे छेद के अंदर गहराई से देखा। But there was no water in the well. लेकिन कुएं में पानी नहीं था। He felt very sad and disappointed. वह बहुत दुखी और निराश हुआ। "Is there no water left on earth?" he asked. "मुझे आखिरी बार कोशिश करनी चाहिए," उसने फैसला किया। He flapped his wings and flew forward. उसने अपने पंख फड़फड़ाए और आगे उड़ गया।

He flew over a large green garden. वह एक बड़े हरे बगीचे के ऊपर से उड़ गया। Suddenly, he saw something under a tree. अचानक, उसने एक पेड़ के नीचे कुछ देखा। It was a clay pitcher (a water pot). यह एक मिट्टी का घड़ा (पानी का बर्तन) था। The Crow became very happy and excited. कौआ बहुत खुश और उत्साहित हो गया। "Water! There must be water!" he cawed. "पानी! पानी जरूर होगा!" वह काँव-काँव किया। He flew down and landed on the rim. वह नीचे उड़ा और किनारे पर उतर गया। He looked inside the pot eagerly. उसने उत्सुकता से बर्तन के अंदर देखा। Yes, there was water in the pitcher! हाँ, घड़े में पानी था! But his happiness did not last long. लेकिन उसकी खुशी ज्यादा देर तक नहीं रही। The water level was very low. पानी का स्तर बहुत कम था। It was at the very bottom of the pot. यह बर्तन के बिल्कुल नीचे था। The Crow tried to push his head inside. कौवे ने अपना सिर अंदर धकेलने की कोशिश की। But the neck of the pot was narrow. लेकिन बर्तन की गर्दन संकरी थी। His beak could not reach the water. उसकी चोंच पानी तक नहीं पहुँच सकी। He tried again and again, but failed. उसने बार-बार कोशिश की, लेकिन असफल रहा।

The Crow sat there feeling helpless. कौआ वहां असहाय होकर बैठ गया। The water was so close, yet so far. पानी इतना करीब था, फिर भी इतना दूर। He tried to break the pot with his beak. उसने अपनी चोंच से बर्तन तोड़ने की कोशिश की। But the clay pot was very hard and thick. लेकिन मिट्टी का बर्तन बहुत सख्त और मोटा था। He tried to push the pot over. उसने बर्तन को पलटने की कोशिश की। He wanted the water to spill out. वह चाहता था कि पानी बाहर गिर जाए। But the pot was too heavy for him. लेकिन बर्तन उसके लिए बहुत भारी था। He could not move it even an inch. वह उसे एक इंच भी नहीं हिला सका। The poor Crow was extremely tired now. बेचारा कौआ अब बहुत थक चुका था। "What should I do now?" he wondered. "अब मुझे क्या करना चाहिए?" उसने सोचा। "I cannot fly anymore looking for water." "मैं पानी की तलाश में और नहीं उड़ सकता।" "I must get this water or I die." "मुझे यह पानी मिलना ही चाहिए नहीं तो मैं मर जाऊंगा।" He looked around the garden for ideas. उसने विचारों के लिए बगीचे के चारों ओर देखा। He saw some small pebbles nearby. उसने पास में कुछ छोटे कंकड़ देखे। A brilliant idea came to his mind. उसके दिमाग में एक शानदार विचार आया।

"If I put stones inside," he thought. "अगर मैं पत्थर अंदर डालूँ," उसने सोचा। "The water level will rise up." "पानी का स्तर ऊपर उठ जाएगा।" He flew to the pile of pebbles. वह कंकड़ के ढेर की ओर उड़ गया। He picked up one pebble in his beak. उसने अपनी चोंच में एक कंकड़ उठाया। He flew back to the pot. वह वापस बर्तन की ओर उड़ गया। He dropped the pebble into the pot. उसने बर्तन में कंकड़ गिरा दिया। "Plop!" went the stone into the water. "प्लॉप!" पत्थर पानी में गया। But the water level did not change much. लेकिन पानी का स्तर ज्यादा नहीं बदला। One pebble was not enough. एक कंकड़ काफी नहीं था। He needed to put many, many stones. उसे बहुत सारे पत्थर डालने थे। The Crow started working very hard. कौवे ने बहुत मेहनत करनी शुरू कर दी। He flew back and forth continuously. वह लगातार इधर-उधर उड़ता रहा। He picked up stones one by one. उसने एक-एक करके पत्थर उठाए। He dropped them into the pot carefully. उसने उन्हें सावधानी से बर्तन में गिराया। One, two, three, ten, twenty stones. एक, दो, तीन, दस, बीस पत्थर।

He worked for a long time. उसने लंबे समय तक काम किया। The sun was very hot on his back. उसकी पीठ पर सूरज बहुत गर्म था। He was panting and exhausted. वह हांफ रहा था और थका हुआ था। But he did not stop his work. लेकिन उसने अपना काम नहीं रोका। Slowly, the water level began to rise. धीरे-धीरे, पानी का स्तर बढ़ने लगा। With every stone, the water came up. हर पत्थर के साथ, पानी ऊपर आया। Finally, the water reached the rim. आखिरकार, पानी किनारे तक पहुँच गया। The Crow was very happy to see this. यह देखकर कौआ बहुत खुश हुआ। He dipped his beak into the cool water. उसने अपनी चोंच ठंडे पानी में डुबोई। He drank the water to his heart's content. उसने जी भरकर पानी पिया। The water tasted sweet and refreshing. पानी मीठा और ताजगी भरा था। He quenched his thirst completely. उसने अपनी प्यास पूरी तरह बुझाई। He felt strong and energetic again. वह फिर से मजबूत और ऊर्जावान महसूस करने लगा। He looked at the pot with pride. उसने गर्व से बर्तन की ओर देखा। His hard work and cleverness saved him. उसकी कड़ी मेहनत और चतुराई ने उसे बचा लिया। He flapped his wings and flew away. उसने अपने पंख फड़फड़ाए और उड़ गया। He cawed happily as he flew home. घर की ओर उड़ते हुए वह खुशी से काँव-काँव करने लगा।
