The King and the Hermit
(राजा और साधु)

Once upon a time, there was a great King. एक समय की बात है, एक महान राजा था। He wanted to be a perfect ruler. वह एक आदर्श शासक बनना चाहता था। He thought he would never fail if he knew three things. उसने सोचा कि यदि वह तीन बातें जान ले तो वह कभी असफल नहीं होगा। The first question was: What is the right time to begin something? पहला सवाल था: किसी चीज को शुरू करने का सही समय क्या है? The second question was: Who are the most important people? दूसरा सवाल था: सबसे महत्वपूर्ण लोग कौन हैं? The third question was: What is the most important thing to do? तीसरा सवाल था: करने के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण काम क्या है? The King wanted answers to these questions very badly. राजा को इन सवालों के जवाब बहुत बुरी तरह चाहिए थे। He sent messengers throughout his kingdom. उसने अपने पूरे राज्य में दूत भेजे। He promised a large reward for the answers. उसने जवाब के लिए बड़े इनाम का वादा किया। Many wise men came to the court. दरबार में कई बुद्धिमान लोग आए। But they all gave different answers. लेकिन उन सभी ने अलग-अलग जवाब दिए। For the first question, some said to follow a timetable. पहले सवाल के लिए, कुछ ने समय सारिणी का पालन करने के लिए कहा। Others said to listen to the council of ministers. दूसरों ने मंत्रिपरिषद की बात सुनने को कहा। For the second question, some said soldiers are important. दूसरे सवाल के लिए, कुछ ने कहा कि सैनिक महत्वपूर्ण हैं। Others said doctors are the most important. दूसरों ने कहा कि डॉक्टर सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हैं। For the third question, some said science is important. तीसरे सवाल के लिए, कुछ ने कहा कि विज्ञान महत्वपूर्ण है। Others said fighting is the most important duty. दूसरों ने कहा कि लड़ना सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कर्तव्य है। The King was not satisfied with any answer. राजा किसी भी उत्तर से संतुष्ट नहीं था।

The King decided to seek a wise Hermit. राजा ने एक बुद्धिमान साधु को खोजने का फैसला किया। The Hermit lived in a wood far away. साधु दूर एक जंगल में रहता था। He never left the forest. उसने कभी जंगल नहीं छोड़ा। He only met common people, not rich kings. वह केवल आम लोगों से मिलता था, अमीर राजाओं से नहीं। So, the King put on simple clothes. इसलिए, राजा ने साधारण कपड़े पहन लिए। He left his horse and bodyguards behind. उसने अपना घोड़ा और अंगरक्षक पीछे छोड़ दिए। He walked alone to the Hermit's hut. वह अकेला साधु की झोपड़ी तक चला। When the King arrived, the Hermit was working. जब राजा पहुँचा, तो साधु काम कर रहा था। He was digging the ground in front of his hut. वह अपनी झोपड़ी के सामने जमीन खोद रहा था। The Hermit was old and weak. साधु बूढ़ा और कमजोर था। He breathed heavily as he worked. काम करते समय वह जोर-जोर से सांस ले रहा था। The King went up to him and bowed. राजा उसके पास गया और प्रणाम किया। "I have come to ask three questions," said the King. "मैं तीन सवाल पूछने आया हूँ," राजा ने कहा। He repeated his three questions to the old man. उसने बूढ़े आदमी को अपने तीन सवाल दोहराए। The Hermit listened but did not speak. साधु ने सुना लेकिन बोला नहीं। He just spat on his hand and continued digging. उसने बस अपने हाथ पर थूका और खुदाई जारी रखी।

"You look tired," said the King kindly. "आप थके हुए लग रहे हैं," राजा ने दयालुता से कहा। "Let me take the spade and work for you." "मुझे फावड़ा लेने दो और तुम्हारे लिए काम करने दो।" "Thanks," said the Hermit. "धन्यवाद," साधु ने कहा। He gave the spade to the King and sat down. उसने राजा को फावड़ा दिया और बैठ गया। The King dug for a long time. राजा ने काफी देर तक खुदाई की। When he had dug two beds, he stopped. जब उसने दो क्यारियां खोद लीं, तो वह रुक गया। He repeated his questions again. उसने अपने सवाल फिर दोहराए। The Hermit gave no answer. साधु ने कोई जवाब नहीं दिया। He stood up and stretched his hands. वह खड़ा हुआ और अपने हाथ फैलाए। "Now you rest, and let me work," he said. "अब तुम आराम करो, और मुझे काम करने दो," उसने कहा। But the King did not give him the spade. लेकिन राजा ने उसे फावड़ा नहीं दिया। He continued to dig until sunset. वह सूर्यास्त तक खुदाई करता रहा। The sun went down behind the trees. सूरज पेड़ों के पीछे चला गया। The King stuck the spade into the ground. राजा ने फावड़ा जमीन में गाड़ दिया। "I came for answers," he said tiredly. Suddenly, the Hermit pointed to the woods. अचानक, साधु ने जंगल की ओर इशारा किया। "Here comes someone running," said the Hermit. "यहाँ कोई दौड़ता हुआ आ रहा है," साधु ने कहा। The King turned around to see. राजा देखने के लिए मुड़ा। A bearded man came running out of the forest. एक दाढ़ी वाला आदमी जंगल से बाहर भागता हुआ आया। The man held his hands against his stomach. आदमी ने अपने हाथों को अपने पेट पर रखा हुआ था। Blood was flowing from under his hands. उसके हाथों के नीचे से खून बह रहा था। When he reached the King, he fainted. जब वह राजा के पास पहुँचा, तो वह बेहोश हो गया। He fell to the ground, moaning in pain. वह दर्द से कराहते हुए जमीन पर गिर पड़ा। The King and the Hermit unfastened his clothes. राजा और साधु ने उसके कपड़े खोले। There was a large wound in his stomach. उसके पेट में एक बड़ा घाव था। The King washed the wound carefully. राजा ने घाव को सावधानी से धोया। He bandaged it with his handkerchief. उसने अपने रूमाल से उस पर पट्टी बांधी। The blood did not stop flowing. खून बहना बंद नहीं हुआ। The King re-bandaged it many times. राजा ने कई बार पट्टी बांधी। Finally, the bleeding stopped completely. अंततः, खून बहना पूरी तरह बंद हो गया। The man opened his eyes and asked for water. आदमी ने अपनी आँखें खोलीं और पानी मांगा। The King brought fresh water for him. राजा उसके लिए ताजा पानी लाया। The King was also very tired by now. राजा भी अब तक बहुत थक चुका था। He lay down on the floor and slept. वह फर्श पर लेट गया और सो गया।

When the King woke up, it was morning. जब राजा जागा, तो सुबह हो चुकी थी। He looked at the bearded man. उसने दाढ़ी वाले आदमी की ओर देखा। The man was staring at him intently. आदमी उसे ध्यान से देख रहा था। "Forgive me," said the bearded man weakly. "मुझे क्षमा करें," दाढ़ी वाले आदमी ने कमजोरी से कहा। "I do not know you," said the King. "मैं तुम्हें नहीं जानता," राजा ने कहा। "I have nothing to forgive you for." The King was very happy. राजा बहुत खुश हुआ। He had made peace with his enemy so easily. उसने अपने दुश्मन के साथ इतनी आसानी से शांति बना ली थी। He forgave the man and promised to return his property. उसने आदमी को माफ कर दिया और उसकी संपत्ति वापस करने का वादा किया। He also promised to send his own doctors. उसने अपने खुद के डॉक्टर भेजने का भी वादा किया। The King went out to find the Hermit. राजा साधु को खोजने के लिए बाहर गया। Before leaving, he wanted his answers one last time. जाने से पहले, वह आखिरी बार अपने जवाब चाहता था। The Hermit was sowing seeds in the beds. साधु क्यारियों में बीज बो रहा था। The King approached him and asked again. राजा उसके पास गया और फिर से पूछा। "For the last time, I pray you to answer me." "आखरी बार, मैं आपसे जवाब देने की प्रार्थना करता हूँ।" The Hermit looked up at the King. साधु ने ऊपर राजा की ओर देखा। "You have already been answered," said the Hermit. The Hermit explained calmly. साधु ने शांति से समझाया। "If you had not dug these beds yesterday," he said. "अगर तुमने कल ये क्यारियां नहीं खोदी होतीं," उसने कहा। "You would have gone back early." "तो तुम जल्दी वापस चले गए होते।" "Then that man would have attacked you." "तब वह आदमी तुम पर हमला कर देता।" "So the most important time was when you were digging." "तो सबसे महत्वपूर्ण समय वह था जब तुम खुदाई कर रहे थे।" "I was the most important man." "मैं सबसे महत्वपूर्ण आदमी था।" "And to do me good was your most important business." "और मेरा भला करना तुम्हारा सबसे महत्वपूर्ण काम था।" "Later, when the man ran to us," he continued.
