The Monkey and the Crocodile
(बंदर और मगरमच्छ)

Once upon a time, there was a big river. एक समय की बात है, एक बड़ी नदी थी। The water of the river was deep and blue. नदी का पानी गहरा और नीला था। On the bank of the river, there was a tree. नदी के किनारे एक पेड़ था। It was a Jamun (Blackberry) tree. यह एक जामुन का पेड़ था। The tree was very large and old. पेड़ बहुत बड़ा और पुराना था। It had sweet and juicy fruits. इसमें मीठे और रसीले फल थे। A clever monkey lived on this tree. इस पेड़ पर एक चतुर बंदर रहता था। His name was Jaggu. उसका नाम जग्गू था। Jaggu lived alone but he was happy. जग्गू अकेला रहता था लेकिन वह खुश था। He ate the sweet fruits every day. वह रोज मीठे फल खाता था। He jumped from one branch to another. वह एक शाखा से दूसरी शाखा पर कूदता था। He watched the river flow all day long. वह दिन भर नदी को बहते हुए देखता रहता था। He had no worries in his life. उसे अपने जीवन में कोई चिंता नहीं थी। But sometimes, he felt a little lonely. लेकिन कभी-कभी, वह थोड़ा अकेलापन महसूस करता था। He wanted a friend to talk to. वह बात करने के लिए एक दोस्त चाहता था।

One afternoon, a crocodile swam to the tree. एक दोपहर, एक मगरमच्छ तैरकर पेड़ के पास आया। His name was Maggu. उसका नाम मग्गू था। He looked very tired and hungry. वह बहुत थका हुआ और भूखा लग रहा था। He came out of the water to rest. वह आराम करने के लिए पानी से बाहर आया। Jaggu saw the crocodile from the tree. जग्गू ने पेड़ से मगरमच्छ को देखा। "Hello friend," said Jaggu. "नमस्ते दोस्त," जग्गू ने कहा। "You look very hungry." "तुम बहुत भूखे लग रहे हो।" "Would you like some fruits?" "क्या तुम कुछ फल लेना चाहोगे?" Maggu was surprised to hear the monkey. मगरमच्छ बंदर को सुनकर हैरान रह गया। "Yes, I am very hungry," said Maggu. "हाँ, मैं बहुत भूखा हूँ," मग्गू ने कहा। Jaggu threw down some ripe Jamuns. जग्गू ने कुछ पके हुए जामुन नीचे फेंके। Maggu ate them quickly. मग्गू ने उन्हें जल्दी से खा लिया। The fruits were very sweet and tasty. फल बहुत मीठे और स्वादिष्ट थे। "Thank you," said the crocodile. "धन्यवाद," मगरमच्छ ने कहा। "These are the best fruits I ever ate." "ये अब तक के सबसे अच्छे फल हैं जो मैंने खाए हैं।" "Can I come back tomorrow?" "क्या मैं कल वापस आ सकता हूँ?" "Yes, please come," said the friendly monkey. "हाँ, कृपया आओ," मिलनसार बंदर ने कहा।

From that day, Maggu visited daily. उस दिन से, मग्गू रोज आने लगा। They became very good friends. वे बहुत अच्छे दोस्त बन गए। They talked for hours under the tree. वे पेड़ के नीचे घंटों बातें करते थे। Jaggu told stories about the jungle. जग्गू जंगल की कहानियाँ सुनाता था। Maggu told stories about the river. मग्गू नदी की कहानियाँ सुनाता था। They laughed and shared jokes. वे हँसते थे और चुटकुले साझा करते थे। Jaggu always gave him lots of fruits. जग्गू हमेशा उसे बहुत सारे फल देता था। One day, Maggu said something. एक दिन, मग्गू ने कुछ कहा। "I want to take some fruits home." "मेरी पत्नी को ये जामुन बहुत पसंद आएंगे।" Jaggu gave him a big bag of fruits. जग्गू ने उसे फलों का एक बड़ा थैला दिया। Maggu took the fruits to his wife. मग्गू फलों को अपनी पत्नी के पास ले गया। His wife lived on the other side of the river. उसकी पत्नी नदी के दूसरी तरफ रहती थी। She ate the fruits with joy. उसने खुशी से फल खाए। But she was a wicked crocodile. लेकिन वह एक दुष्ट मगरमच्छ थी। A bad idea came to her mind. उसके मन में एक बुरा विचार आया।

She looked at her husband. उसने अपने पति की ओर देखा। "These berries are so sweet," she said. "ये जामुन बहुत मीठे हैं," उसने कहा। "The monkey eats them every day." "बंदर उन्हें रोज खाता है।" "So, his heart must be very sweet too." "तो, उसका दिल भी बहुत मीठा होगा।" "I want to eat his heart." "मैं उसका दिल खाना चाहती हूँ।" "Bring him to me tomorrow." "उसे कल मेरे पास लाओ।" Maggu was shocked and angry. मग्गू हैरान और गुस्से में था। "He is my best friend!" he shouted. "वह मेरा सबसे अच्छा दोस्त है!" वह चिल्लाया। "I cannot kill him." "मैं उसे नहीं मार सकता।" But the wife started crying. लेकिन पत्नी रोने लगी। She pretended to be very sick. उसने बहुत बीमार होने का नाटक किया। "If I don't eat his heart, I will die," she lied. "अगर मैंने उसका दिल नहीं खाया, तो मैं मर जाऊंगी," उसने झूठ बोला। Maggu loved his wife very much. मग्गू अपनी पत्नी से बहुत प्यार करता था। He was very confused and sad. वह बहुत भ्रमित और दुखी था। Finally, he decided to save his wife. अंत में, उसने अपनी पत्नी को बचाने का फैसला किया। He made a plan to trick the monkey. उसने बंदर को धोखा देने की योजना बनाई।

The next day, Maggu went to the tree. अगले दिन, मग्गू पेड़ के पास गया। He tried to look happy. उसने खुश दिखने की कोशिश की। "Hello Jaggu," he called out. "नमस्ते जग्गू," उसने पुकारा। "My wife liked the fruits very much." "मेरी पत्नी को फल बहुत पसंद आए।" "She wants to thank you personally." "मैं तुम्हें सुरक्षित ले जाऊंगा।" Jaggu jumped down from the tree. जग्गू पेड़ से नीचे कूद गया। He sat on the crocodile's back. वह मगरमच्छ की पीठ पर बैठ गया। They started their journey across the river. उन्होंने नदी के पार अपनी यात्रा शुरू की।

The water was cool and deep. पानी ठंडा और गहरा था। They reached the middle of the river. वे नदी के बीच में पहुँच गए। Maggu began to sink deeper. मग्गू गहरा डूबने लगा। Jaggu got scared. जग्गू डर गया। "Why are you sinking?" asked Jaggu. "तुम क्यों डूब रहे हो?" जग्गू ने पूछा। "I am afraid of water." "मुझे पानी से डर लगता है।" Maggu felt very guilty inside. मग्गू को अंदर ही अंदर बहुत ग्लानि महसूस हुई। He could not lie to his friend anymore. वह अपने दोस्त से और झूठ नहीं बोल सकता था। "I am sorry, Jaggu," he said sadly. "मुझे माफ कर दो, जग्गू," उसने उदासी से कहा। "My wife is sick." "मेरी पत्नी बीमार है।" "She wants to eat your heart." "वह तुम्हारा दिल खाना चाहती है।" "I am taking you to her to be killed." "मैं तुम्हें उसके पास मारे जाने के लिए ले जा रहा हूँ।" Jaggu was terrified. जग्गू भयभीत था। But he was very smart. लेकिन वह बहुत होशियार था। He did not show his fear. उसने अपना डर नहीं दिखाया। He kept his mind calm. उसने अपना दिमाग शांत रखा।

Jaggu laughed loudly. जग्गू जोर से हंसा। "Oh Maggu, you are so foolish!" he said. "ओह मग्गू, तुम कितने मूर्ख हो!" उसने कहा। "Why didn't you tell me before?" "तुमने मुझे पहले क्यों नहीं बताया?" "I left my heart on the tree." "मैंने अपना दिल पेड़ पर छोड़ दिया।" "We monkeys do not carry hearts everywhere." "हम बंदर हर जगह दिल लेकर नहीं चलते।" "It is too precious to carry." "यह ले जाने के लिए बहुत कीमती है।" Maggu was confused. मग्गू भ्रमित था। "Is it true?" he asked. "क्या यह सच है?" उसने पूछा। "Yes, of course," said Jaggu. "हाँ, बिल्कुल," जग्गू ने कहा। "If we go to your wife now, she will be angry." "अगर हम अभी तुम्हारी पत्नी के पास जाएंगे, तो वह गुस्सा होगी।" "I have no heart with me." "मेरे पास मेरा दिल नहीं है।" "Let's go back and get it." "चलो वापस चलते हैं और इसे लाते हैं।" Maggu believed the monkey. मगरमच्छ ने बंदर पर विश्वास कर लिया। He turned around in the water. वह पानी में मुड़ गया। He swam fast towards the tree. वह तेजी से पेड़ की ओर तैरा।

As soon as they reached the bank, Jaggu jumped. जैसे ही वे किनारे पर पहुँचे, जग्गू कूद गया। He climbed up the highest branch instantly. वह तुरंत सबसे ऊंची शाखा पर चढ़ गया। He breathed a sigh of relief. उसने राहत की सांस ली। Maggu waited in the water. मग्गू ने पानी में इंतजार किया। "Please bring your heart down," said Maggu. "तुम दोस्त नहीं हो," वह चिल्लाया। "You are a traitor." "तुम गद्दार हो।" "How can a heart be outside the body?" "दिल शरीर के बाहर कैसे हो सकता है?" "I trusted you, but you cheated me." "मैंने तुम पर भरोसा किया, लेकिन तुमने मुझे धोखा दिया।" "Go away and never come back." "चले जाओ और कभी वापस मत आना।" Maggu realized his stupidity. मग्गू को अपनी मूर्खता का एहसास हुआ। He lost a true friend because of foolishness. उसने मूर्खता के कारण एक सच्चा दोस्त खो दिया। He swam back sadly to his wicked wife. वह उदासी से अपनी दुष्ट पत्नी के पास वापस तैर गया।
