The Merchant and the Wise Parrot

Long ago, in the land of Persia, lived a merchant. बहुत समय पहले, फारस की भूमि पर, एक व्यापारी रहता था। He was extremely wealthy and famous. वह बहुत अमीर और प्रसिद्ध था। He had a big house with many rooms. उसका एक बड़ा घर था जिसमें कई कमरे थे। He had many servants to serve him. उसकी सेवा करने के लिए कई नौकर थे। But his most prized possession was a bird. लेकिन उसकी सबसे कीमती संपत्ति एक पक्षी थी। It was a beautiful green parrot from India. यह भारत का एक सुंदर हरा तोता था। The parrot was very intelligent. तोता बहुत बुद्धिमान था। It could talk like a human being. यह एक इंसान की तरह बात कर सकता था। It could recite poems and sing songs. यह कविताएँ सुना सकता था और गीत गा सकता था। The merchant loved the parrot very much. व्यापारी तोते से बहुत प्यार करता था। He kept the bird in a golden cage. उसने पक्षी को सोने के पिंजरे में रखा था। He gave it the best seeds and fruits. उसने उसे सबसे अच्छे बीज और फल दिए। He gave it fresh water with honey. उसने उसे शहद के साथ ताजा पानी दिया। The parrot had everything it needed. तोते के पास वह सब कुछ था जो उसे चाहिए था। However, it lacked one thing: Freedom. हालाँकि, इसमें एक चीज की कमी थी: आज़ादी। The parrot was sad inside the cage. तोता पिंजरे के अंदर उदास था। It missed the green forests of India. इसे भारत के हरे भरे जंगलों की याद आती थी।

"मेरे प्यारे तोते," व्यापारी ने कहा। "I am going to your homeland, India." "मैं तुम्हारी मातृभूमि, भारत जा रहा हूँ।" "Do you want a gift from there?" "क्या तुम्हें वहां से कोई उपहार चाहिए?" The parrot looked at him sadly. तोते ने उसे उदासी से देखा। "I do not want any gift," said the parrot. "मुझे कोई उपहार नहीं चाहिए," तोते ने कहा। "But please do me a small favor." "लेकिन कृपया मुझ पर एक छोटा सा एहसान करें।" "When you see other parrots in the forest," "जब आप जंगल में दूसरे तोते देखें," "Tell them about me." "उन्हें मेरे बारे में बताएं।" "Tell them I am happy but caged." "उन्हें बताएं कि मैं खुश हूँ लेकिन पिंजरे में हूँ।" "Ask them for some advice for me." "उनसे मेरे लिए कोई सलाह मांगें।" The merchant laughed and agreed. व्यापारी हंसा और मान गया। "I will surely deliver your message," he said. "मैं निश्चित रूप से आपका संदेश पहुँचाऊंगा," उसने कहा।

The merchant traveled for many weeks. व्यापारी ने कई हफ्तों तक यात्रा की। He crossed high mountains and deserts. उसने ऊंचे पहाड़ों और रेगिस्तानों को पार किया। Finally, he reached the land of India. अंत में, वह भारत की भूमि पर पहुँचा। He bought spices, silk, and jewels. उसने मसाले, रेशम और गहने खरीदे। He collected all the gifts for his family. उसने अपने परिवार के लिए सभी उपहार इकट्ठे किए। Then, he remembered the parrot's request. फिर, उसे तोते का अनुरोध याद आया। He went to a dense green forest. वह एक घने हरे जंगल में गया। The forest was full of noise and life. जंगल शोर और जीवन से भरा था। He saw a large Banyan tree. उसने एक बड़ा बरगद का पेड़ देखा। Hundreds of green parrots were sitting there. वहाँ सैकड़ों हरे तोते बैठे थे। They were chatting and flying freely. वे बातें कर रहे थे और आजादी से उड़ रहे थे। The merchant stopped his horse. व्यापारी ने अपना घोड़ा रोका। He shouted loudly to the birds. वह पक्षियों पर जोर से चिल्लाया। "O Parrots! Listen to me!" he yelled. "ओ तोते! मेरी बात सुनो!" वह चिल्लाया। "I have a message from your friend." "मेरे पास तुम्हारे दोस्त का एक संदेश है।" The parrots stopped making noise. तोतों ने शोर मचाना बंद कर दिया। They looked down at the merchant. उन्होंने नीचे व्यापारी की ओर देखा।

The merchant continued his story. व्यापारी ने अपनी कहानी जारी रखी। "One of your brothers lives in my house." "तुम्हारा एक भाई मेरे घर में रहता है।" "He lives in a golden cage." "वह सोने के पिंजरे में रहता है।" "I give him delicious food and love." "मैं उसे स्वादिष्ट भोजन और प्यार देता हूँ।" "But he misses you all." "लेकिन वह तुम सबको याद करता है।" "He asks for your advice." "वह तुम्हारी सलाह मांगता है।" As soon as the merchant finished, something happened. जैसे ही व्यापारी ने अपनी बात खत्म की, कुछ हुआ। One old parrot began to tremble. एक बूढ़ा तोता कांपने लगा। It shook violently on the branch. वह शाखा पर जोर से हिलने लगा। Then, it fell down from the tree. फिर, वह पेड़ से नीचे गिर गया। It hit the ground with a thud. वह धड़ाम से जमीन पर गिरा। It lay there, stiff and dead. वह वहां कठोर और मृत पड़ा रहा। The merchant was very shocked. व्यापारी बहुत हैरान था। "Oh no!" he thought with guilt. "अरे नहीं!" उसने ग्लानि के साथ सोचा। "This bird must be related to my parrot." "यह पक्षी जरूर मेरे तोते का रिश्तेदार होगा।" "Maybe it died of shock and grief." "शायद यह सदमे और दुख से मर गया।" "I should not have told them." "मुझे उन्हें नहीं बताना चाहिए था।" He felt very bad about the death. उसे मौत का बहुत बुरा लगा। He left the forest immediately. उसने तुरंत जंगल छोड़ दिया।

After many days, the merchant reached home. कई दिनों के बाद, व्यापारी घर पहुँचा। His family was happy to see him. उसका परिवार उसे देखकर खुश था। He gave the silk to his daughters. उसने अपनी बेटियों को रेशम दिया। He gave the swords to his sons. उसने अपने बेटों को तलवारें दीं। He gave the jewels to his wife. उसने अपनी पत्नी को गहने दिए। Then he went to the parrot. फिर वह तोते के पास गया। The parrot was waiting eagerly. तोता बेसब्री से इंतजार कर रहा था। "Did you see my friends?" asked the parrot. "क्या तुमने मेरे दोस्तों को देखा?" तोते ने पूछा। "Yes, I did," said the merchant sadly. "हाँ, मैंने देखा," व्यापारी ने उदासी से कहा। "But I have bad news for you." "लेकिन मेरे पास तुम्हारे लिए बुरी खबर है।" "I cannot tell you, it is too sad." "मैं तुम्हें बता नहीं सकता, यह बहुत दुखद है।" "Please tell me," insisted the parrot. "कृपया मुझे बताएं," तोते ने जोर दिया। The merchant sighed and spoke. व्यापारी ने आह भरी और बोला। "I told them about your cage." "मैंने उन्हें तुम्हारे पिंजरे के बारे में बताया।" "One parrot was so shocked that he fell." "एक तोता इतना चौंक गया कि वह गिर गया।" "He fell from the tree and died." "वह पेड़ से गिर गया और मर गया।"

The pet parrot listened very carefully. पालतू तोते ने बहुत ध्यान से सुना। Suddenly, he started to tremble. अचानक, वह कांपने लगा। He shook violently on his perch. वह अपने अड्डे पर जोर से हिलने लगा। Then, he fell to the bottom of the cage. फिर, वह पिंजरे के तल पर गिर गया। He lay on his back with feet up. वह अपनी पीठ के बल पैर ऊपर करके लेट गया। He did not move or breathe. वह न हिला और न ही सांस ली। The merchant was horrified. व्यापारी भयभीत था। "Oh no! My beloved bird!" he cried. "अरे नहीं! मेरा प्यारा पक्षी!" वह रोया। "The news of his friend killed him." "उसके दोस्त की खबर ने उसे मार डाला।" "I have caused two deaths now." "मैंने अब दो मौतें की हैं।" He opened the golden cage door. उसने सोने के पिंजरे का दरवाजा खोला। He picked up the parrot gently. उसने तोते को धीरे से उठाया। The bird was still warm but limp. पक्षी अभी भी गर्म था लेकिन लंगड़ा (बेजान) था। The merchant cried and took him outside. व्यापारी रोया और उसे बाहर ले गया। He placed the body on the green grass. उसने शव को हरी घास पर रख दिया।

As soon as he touched the grass, magic happened. जैसे ही उसने घास को छुआ, जादू हो गया। The parrot opened his eyes instantly. तोते ने तुरंत अपनी आँखें खोल दीं। He flapped his wings with energy. उसने ऊर्जा के साथ अपने पंख फड़फड़ाए। He flew up to a high branch. वह एक ऊंची शाखा पर उड़ गया। The merchant was amazed and confused. व्यापारी चकित और भ्रमित था। "You are alive?" asked the merchant. "तुम जीवित हो?" व्यापारी ने पूछा। "Yes, master," said the parrot happily. "हाँ, मालिक," तोते ने खुशी से कहा। "But why did you do this?" "लेकिन तुमने ऐसा क्यों किया?" The parrot smiled and explained. तोता मुस्कुराया और समझाया। "The parrot in the forest was wise." "जंगल में वह तोता बुद्धिमान था।" "He did not die of shock." "वह सदमे से नहीं मरा।" "He was sending me a message." "वह मुझे एक संदेश भेज रहा था।" "He showed me the way to freedom." "उसने मुझे आज़ादी का रास्ता दिखाया।" "He taught me that to be free, I must die." "उसने मुझे सिखाया कि आज़ाद होने के लिए, मुझे मरना होगा।" "I must die to my old life in the cage." "मुझे पिंजरे में अपने पुराने जीवन को मारना होगा।" "Thank you for the message, merchant." "संदेश के लिए धन्यवाद, व्यापारी।" With that, the parrot flew away. इसके साथ ही, तोता उड़ गया। He flew towards the blue sky. वह नीले आकाश की ओर उड़ गया। The merchant watched him go. व्यापारी ने उसे जाते हुए देखा। He learned that wisdom is greater than wealth. उसने सीखा कि ज्ञान धन से बड़ा होता है। And freedom cannot be bought with gold. और आज़ादी सोने से नहीं खरीदी जा सकती।
