The Hare and the Tortoise
(खरगोश और कछुआ)

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful forest. एक समय की बात है, एक सुंदर जंगल था। Many animals lived together in harmony. कई जानवर मिलजुल कर रहते थे। Among them, there lived a Hare. उनमें से, एक खरगोश रहता था। The Hare was very energetic and fast. खरगोश बहुत ऊर्जावान और तेज था। He could run faster than anyone else. वह किसी और से ज्यादा तेज दौड़ सकता था। But he had one bad habit. लेकिन उसकी एक बुरी आदत थी। He was very proud and arrogant. वह बहुत घमंडी और अहंकारी था। He always boasted about his speed. वह हमेशा अपनी गति के बारे में शेखी बघारता था। He made fun of other slow animals. वह दूसरे धीमे जानवरों का मजाक उड़ाता था। "I am the fastest runner in the world," he said. "मैं दुनिया का सबसे तेज धावक हूँ," उसने कहा। "No one can beat me in a race." "दौड़ में मुझे कोई नहीं हरा सकता।" "You are all lazy and slow." "तुम सब आलसी और धीमे हो।" The other animals did not like his attitude. अन्य जानवरों को उसका रवैया पसंद नहीं आया। But they stayed quiet because he was fast. लेकिन वे चुप रहे क्योंकि वह तेज था।

"क्या तुम कभी रेंगने से थकते हो?" The Tortoise listened patiently to the insults. कछुए ने धैर्यपूर्वक अपमान सुना। He smiled gently at the Hare. वह खरगोश पर धीरे से मुस्कुराया। "I may be slow, but I am steady," said the Tortoise. "मैं धीमा हो सकता हूँ, लेकिन मैं स्थिर हूँ," कछुए ने कहा। "If you are so proud, let us race." "यदि तुम्हें इतना गर्व है, तो चलो दौड़ लगाएं।" The Hare was shocked by the challenge. खरगोश चुनौती से हैरान रह गया। "You want to race with me?" he laughed. "तुम मेरे साथ दौड़ना चाहते हो?" वह हंसा। "This is the best joke I have heard." "यह मैंने अब तक का सबसे अच्छा मजाक सुना है।" "I will defeat you in seconds." "मैं तुम्हें सेकंडों में हरा दूँगा।"

The race was fixed for the next morning. दौड़ अगली सुबह के लिए तय की गई। All the animals gathered to watch. सभी जानवर देखने के लिए इकट्ठे हुए। The Fox was chosen as the judge. लोमड़ी को न्यायाधीश चुना गया। He marked the starting line and the finish line. उसने शुरुआती लाइन और फिनिश लाइन को चिह्नित किया। The finish line was near the big river. फिनिश लाइन बड़ी नदी के पास थी। The Hare stood at the start line confidently. खरगोश आत्मविश्वास से शुरुआती लाइन पर खड़ा हो गया। He stretched his legs and warmed up. उसने अपने पैर फैलाए और वार्म अप किया। The Tortoise stood quietly beside him. कछुआ चुपचाप उसके पास खड़ा था। "One, two, three, GO!" shouted the Fox. "एक, दो, तीन, जाओ!" लोमड़ी चिल्लाई। The Hare shot forward like an arrow. खरगोश तीर की तरह आगे बढ़ा। He ran very fast and disappeared. वह बहुत तेज दौड़ा और गायब हो गया। The Tortoise started walking slowly. कछुए ने धीरे-धीरे चलना शुरू किया। "Step by step, step by step," he went. "कदम दर कदम, कदम दर कदम," वह चला। The crowd cheered for both of them. भीड़ ने दोनों के लिए जयकार की।

The Hare ran for a few minutes. खरगोश कुछ मिनटों तक दौड़ा। He looked back to see the Tortoise. उसने कछुए को देखने के लिए पीछे मुड़कर देखा। The Tortoise was nowhere to be seen. कछुआ कहीं दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था। "He is far behind," thought the Hare. "वह बहुत पीछे है," खरगोश ने सोचा। "It will take him hours to reach here." "उसे यहाँ पहुँचने में घंटों लगेंगे।" The sun was hot and the breeze was cool. सूरज गर्म था और हवा ठंडी थी। The Hare saw a shady tree nearby. खरगोश ने पास में एक छायादार पेड़ देखा। Also, there were some juicy carrots growing. साथ ही, वहां कुछ रसीली गाजरें उग रही थीं। "I should eat a snack," he said. "मुझे थोड़ा नाश्ता करना चाहिए," उसने कहा। He ate the carrots quickly. उसने जल्दी से गाजरें खाईं। Then he felt heavy and sleepy. फिर उसे भारीपन और नींद महसूस हुई। "I will take a small nap," he decided. "मैं एक छोटी झपकी लूँगा," उसने फैसला किया। "The Tortoise is too slow to catch me." "कछुआ मुझे पकड़ने के लिए बहुत धीमा है।" "I can wake up and finish the race easily." "मैं जागकर आसानी से दौड़ पूरी कर सकता हूँ।" He lay down and fell fast asleep. वह लेट गया और गहरी नींद में सो गया।

Meanwhile, the Tortoise kept walking. इस बीच, कछुआ चलता रहा। He did not stop for food or water. वह भोजन या पानी के लिए नहीं रुका। He did not stop to rest. वह आराम करने के लिए नहीं रुका। The sun beat down on his shell. सूरज उसके खोल पर चमक रहा था। He was tired and sweating. वह थका हुआ था और पसीना बहा रहा था। But he kept his eyes on the road. लेकिन उसने अपनी नजरें सड़क पर रखीं। He passed the sleeping Hare quietly. वह सोते हुए खरगोश के पास से चुपचाप गुजरा। He heard the Hare snoring loudly. उसने खरगोश को जोर-जोर से खर्राटे लेते सुना। He did not wake him up. उसने उसे नहीं जगाया। He continued moving forward steadily. वह लगातार आगे बढ़ता रहा। Slowly but surely, he covered the distance. धीरे-धीरे लेकिन निश्चित रूप से, उसने दूरी तय की। He was getting closer to the river. वह नदी के करीब पहुँच रहा था। The animals at the finish line saw him. फिनिश लाइन पर मौजूद जानवरों ने उसे देखा। They started cheering silently. वे चुपचाप जयकार करने लगे। They did not want to wake the Hare. वे खरगोश को जगाना नहीं चाहते थे।

After a long time, the Hare woke up. काफी देर बाद, खरगोश जागा। He rubbed his eyes and looked around. उसने अपनी आँखें मलते हुए चारों ओर देखा। The sun was already setting down. सूरज पहले ही डूब रहा था। "Oh no! I slept for too long," he exclaimed. "अरे नहीं! मैं बहुत देर तक सो गया," वह चिल्लाया। He looked back at the path. उसने रास्ते पर पीछे मुड़कर देखा। He did not see the Tortoise coming. उसे कछुआ आता हुआ नहीं दिखा। "He must be still far behind," he thought. "वह अभी भी बहुत पीछे होगा," उसने सोचा। He laughed and started running again. वह हंसा और फिर से दौड़ने लगा। He ran faster than the wind. वह हवा से भी तेज दौड़ा। He wanted to show off his speed. वह अपनी गति दिखाना चाहता था। But as he reached the finish line. लेकिन जैसे ही वह फिनिश लाइन पर पहुँचा। He saw a shocking sight. उसने एक चौंकाने वाला दृश्य देखा। The Tortoise was already there. कछुआ वहां पहले से मौजूद था। He was just crossing the line. वह बस लाइन पार कर रहा था। The animals were clapping and shouting. जानवर तालियां बजा रहे थे और चिल्ला रहे थे।

The Hare stopped running and gasped. खरगोश ने दौड़ना बंद कर दिया और हांफने लगा। He could not believe his eyes. उसे अपनी आँखों पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ। The slow Tortoise had won the race. धीमे कछुए ने दौड़ जीत ली थी। The Hare hung his head in shame. खरगोश ने शर्म से अपना सिर झुका लिया। He realized his mistake. उसे अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ। His overconfidence had made him lose. उसके अति आत्मविश्वास ने उसे हरा दिया था। The Tortoise smiled at him kindly. कछुआ उस पर दयालुता से मुस्कुराया। "You are fast, but you are not steady," he said. "तुम तेज हो, लेकिन तुम स्थिर नहीं हो," उसने कहा। "Consistency is more important than speed." "निरंतरता गति से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है।" The Hare apologized to the Tortoise. खरगोश ने कछुए से माफी मांगी। "I will never be arrogant again," he promised. "मैं फिर कभी अहंकारी नहीं बनूंगा," उसने वादा किया। They became good friends after that day. उस दिन के बाद वे अच्छे दोस्त बन गए। The story tells us something important. कहानी हमें कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बताती है। Never underestimate others based on appearance. कभी भी दूसरों को दिखावे के आधार पर कम न आंकें। Hard work always beats lazy talent. कड़ी मेहनत हमेशा आलसी प्रतिभा को हरा देती है।
