The Honest Woodcutter

The God dived into the water. भगवान ने पानी में गोता लगाया। A few moments later, he came out. कुछ पल बाद, वह बाहर आए। He was holding a beautiful axe. उन्होंने एक सुंदर कुल्हाड़ी पकड़ रखी थी। It was made of pure gold. यह शुद्ध सोने की बनी थी। It sparkled in the sunlight. यह धूप में चमक रही थी। "Is this your axe?" asked the God. "क्या यह तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी है?" भगवान ने पूछा। Ramu looked at the golden axe. रामू ने सोने की कुल्हाड़ी की ओर देखा। He knew it was very valuable. वह जानता था कि यह बहुत कीमती है। He could sell it and become rich. वह इसे बेच सकता था और अमीर बन सकता था। But Ramu shook his head firmly. लेकिन रामू ने दृढ़ता से अपना सिर हिलाया। "No, my Lord," said Ramu. The God dived into the water again. भगवान ने फिर से पानी में गोता लगाया। This time, he brought another axe. इस बार, वह एक और कुल्हाड़ी लाए। It was made of shining silver. यह चमकदार चांदी की बनी थी। It looked very expensive and heavy. यह बहुत महंगी और भारी लग रही थी। "Is this your axe, Ramu?" asked the God. "क्या यह तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी है, रामू?" भगवान ने पूछा। Ramu looked at the silver axe. रामू ने चांदी की कुल्हाड़ी को देखा। Again, he shook his head sadly. फिर से, उसने उदासी से अपना सिर हिलाया। "No, Lord," he said honestly. The God went down for the third time. भगवान तीसरी बार नीचे गए। When he came up, he held an old axe. जब वे ऊपर आए, तो उन्होंने एक पुरानी कुल्हाड़ी पकड़ रखी थी। It had a wooden handle and iron blade. इसकी लकड़ी की मूठ और लोहे की धार थी। Ramu jumped up with joy. रामू खुशी से उछल पड़ा। "Yes! Yes!" he shouted happily. "हाँ! हाँ!" वह खुशी से चिल्लाया। "This is my axe!" "यह मेरी कुल्हाड़ी है!" "Thank you for finding it, Lord." "इसे खोजने के लिए धन्यवाद, भगवान।" "I am very grateful to you." "यह तुम्हारी ईमानदारी का उपहार है।" Ramu thanked the God many times. रामू ने भगवान को कई बार धन्यवाद दिया। He went home singing happily. वह खुशी से गाता हुआ घर गया।

Ramu became a rich man. रामू एक अमीर आदमी बन गया। He told his story to his friends. उसने अपने दोस्तों को अपनी कहानी सुनाई। A greedy neighbor named Somu heard it. सोमू नाम के एक लालची पड़ोसी ने इसे सुना। Somu wanted gold axes too. सोमू को भी सोने की कुल्हाड़ियां चाहिए थीं। The next day, Somu ran to the forest. अगले दिन, सोमू जंगल की ओर भागा। He found the same river bank. उसे वही नदी का किनारा मिला। He took an old rusty axe. उसने एक पुरानी जंग लगी कुल्हाड़ी ली। He climbed the tree and started cutting. वह पेड़ पर चढ़ गया और काटने लगा। He threw his axe into the river on purpose. उसने जानबूझकर अपनी कुल्हाड़ी नदी में फेंक दी। Then he sat down and started pretending. फिर वह बैठ गया और नाटक करने लगा। He cried loudly, "Help! Help!" वह जोर से चिल्लाया, "मदद! मदद!" The River God appeared again. नदी के देवता फिर से प्रकट हुए। "Why are you crying?" God asked. "तुम क्यों रो रहे हो?" भगवान ने पूछा। "I lost my axe," lied Somu. "मैंने अपनी कुल्हाड़ी खो दी," सोमू ने झूठ बोला।

The God knew Somu was lying. भगवान जानते थे कि सोमू झूठ बोल रहा है। But he dived into the water anyway. लेकिन फिर भी उन्होंने पानी में गोता लगाया। He came out holding a gold axe. वह सोने की कुल्हाड़ी लेकर बाहर आए। "Is this your axe?" God asked. "क्या यह तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी है?" भगवान ने पूछा। Somu's eyes shone with greed. सोमू की आंखें लालच से चमक उठीं। "Yes! Yes! That is mine!" he shouted. "हाँ! हाँ! वह मेरी है!" वह चिल्लाया। He reached out to grab the gold axe. वह सोने की कुल्हाड़ी पकड़ने के लिए आगे बढ़ा। The River God became very angry. नदी के देवता बहुत क्रोधित हुए। "You are a liar and a cheat," he said. "तुम झूठे और धोखेबाज हो," उन्होंने कहा। "You do not deserve any reward." "तुम किसी इनाम के हकदार नहीं हो।" The God threw the gold axe back in water. भगवान ने सोने की कुल्हाड़ी वापस पानी में फेंक दी। He did not even return the iron axe. उन्होंने लोहे की कुल्हाड़ी भी नहीं लौटाई। The God disappeared forever. भगवान हमेशा के लिए गायब हो गए। Somu sat there crying for real. सोमू वहां बैठकर सचमुच रोने लगा। He had lost his own axe too. उसने अपनी कुल्हाड़ी भी खो दी थी। He went home empty-handed and sad. वह खाली हाथ और उदास घर गया।
